Automated Personalized Weekly Cards for College Students? Sign Me Up!

For all the parents who feel like all this college stuff is overwhelming, I’m with you. I’m not the most talented when it comes to art, and my creative gene sometimes goes missing, but sending customized cards to college kids is absolutely up my alley.

I see all the Pinterest gorgeous care packages and perfectly curated dorm rooms and know that it’s just not what I’m capable of. And that’s absolutely ok.

The important thing is to do what works for you and for your kids. Do my kids enjoy getting plain brown boxes? Absolutely.

It’s the thought that counts, and sometimes I need a little help to get the thought across. I found a business that is there to help with this, and I’m so excited to send weekly customized cards to my kid this year through Cards2College.

Cards2College offers a weekly card-sending service designed to uplift and encourage your student, reminding them of your love and support. They receive cards in the mail – and mine love mail – with just a tiny bit of effort on your part.

How Cards2College Works

Cards2College is a subscription service that sends a personalized card to your college student every week. The design is set, but you create the message inside that means the most for your child.

The cards are designed to be uplifting and motivating for all students. They are not gendered, nor are they religious, which makes them a good fit for every kid.

You sign up for a full semester or quarter, depending on where your child attends school. The cost is $99 for the 16-week semester and $65 for the 10-week quarter, which includes the printing, customization, and mailing costs.

Buuuut if you sign up for Cards2College before August 12, you can use the code WELCOME10 to get a 10% discount on your subscription.

To get started, you simply sign up for the program and provide your student’s information, including their name and address. You’ll also need to provide your contact information for the return address and to receive text message reminders.

Each Tuesday morning, you’ll receive a text reminder to update your personalized message for the week’s card. While you can update your message anytime before Tuesday, you can also store up to three messages in advance for those weeks when you might forget. Once you’ve finalized your message, the card gets sent to the printer Tuesday evening for processing.

Who Is This Program Good For?

Sending a customized card to a college student is perfect for people who want to show kids they’re loved but don’t have the time or energy to create full care packages. It’s also a great supplement to them.

These cards are ideal for grandparents and other relatives close to college students to send, as well. If you have a student who is homesick or has struggled in the past, these cards where you can continue to share uplifting messages to students can really help your student feel appreciated.

I said it once, and I’ll say it again – who doesn’t love receiving mail? A physical card is meaningful.

What If I Forget to Submit a Message One Week?

The good news is that the system knows we’re all busy, and sometimes things happen. Cards2College lets you create three messages ahead of time to use if you forget to submit one another week.

There are three blank boxes in your dashboard where you can create default messages to cycle through if you forget, and the first one is prefilled with the message you use at signup. Each message can be up to 325 characters, which gives you just enough room to provide a heartfelt (or funny or whatever) message without the pressure to write a novel.

Best of all, the window to update your message opens each Wednesday, and you have until the following Tuesday to submit the message for that week. Cards go to the printer that evening, and the cycle repeats.

The cards are printed and stamped with actual stamps on Wednesday and go into the mail on Thursday. The actual delivery date will depend on the USPS at that point, but it will be pretty consistent timing.

If you are someone who might forget, Cards2College sends out a text reminder at 8am Pacific each Tuesday to help ensure you get your messages updated by 8pm Pacific that evening. It’s a great and stress-free process.

How Does It Work If I Have Multiple Kids?

If you have more than one college student you want to send personalized cards to, Cards2College makes it easy. As you sign up, you can add an additional child, and that includes the ability to select the correct school for each child.

If one is on the quarter system and the other on semesters, it recognizes this and is set up correctly for each one. If you decide to add another child partway into the year, you can add another student from your dashboard.

If you have more than one child signed up, you can easily toggle between their accounts to create personalized messages for each. I love how it’s designed so smartly for every situation.

Do it! Remember to sign up for Cards2College before August 12, so you can use the code WELCOME10 to get a 10% discount on your subscription!

How Does the Program Know When to Start Sending Cards?

When you first sign up, you’ll notice that there are a lot of colleges on the dropdown list to select from, but not every college is there. That list is a list of the current customers, and you can add your child’s school if needed.

That list is verified every semester to ensure that each school’s start and end dates for the semester are accurate. This allows your student to get the first card their first week of school and not on an arbitrary date.

Can I Sign Up After the Year Starts?

Yes! You absolutely can sign up for Cards2College at any point. If you sign up after the semester or the quarter starts, you have a prorated cost for the rest of that period. Your child will receive a card starting the next week.

As long you sign up by Tuesday, you will have the chance to submit your message and have a card go out that week. If you miss the signup by a couple days, the company will reach out to offer to manually process that first week’s card for you, which shows the dedication to customer service they have.

Is Cards2College a Recurring Subscription?

Cards2College is set up to send personalized cards to your college student every year, so yes, it is a recurring subscription. That said, you get multiple reminders before you are billed for the next quarter or semester with plenty of time to cancel if needed.

The program is set up to have a four year cycle plus one semester of cards currently so that your student receives a different card each week of their entire college career. If the company gets requests to expand beyond that, that may be an option.

By staying subscribed, your child stays on track with their point in the cycle with the cards. If you unsubscribe, you must reach out to the customer service to reactivate rather than signing up again to ensure your child is manually placed into the cycle where they left off or they get the cards from the start of the cycle again.

If your child is in grad school or has graduated, Cards2College also sells theme packs that are suitable for anyone with four themes of affirmation, faith, encouragement, and thinking of you. Depending on demand may expand to offer cards for students pursuing advanced degrees, as well.

What If My Child Transfers to a Different School?

It’s easy to update the student’s information within the Cards2College dashboard. Go into student info and then select the option to edit that info.

From there, you can change everything from the student’s name to the school information. Regardless, be sure you update the student address each year, as most of them get a new address as they move dorms or apartments.

If your student moves from a semester school to a quarter system school, reach out to customer service within your dashboard to update it to the correct card setup. And just like when you first sign up, if your child’s new school is not listed in the dropdown menu, you can add a new school, this time the very last option in that menu.

Staying Connected with Your Student

Cards2College aims to foster a strong connection between parents and students. By providing weekly communications, the service helps bridge the gap between home and college life. With its convenient subscription model, personalized messages, and weekly delivery, this service provides a valuable opportunity to brighten your student’s week and strengthen your bond.
